eXpress Import Tools

Spherea Technology offers a range of software tools and services for the import of engineering design data from various file formats into the eXpress diagnostic engineering tool.

The Spherea Technology eDi (eXpress Data importer) software toolset provides customised import from such file formats as electronic or mechanical layout, offering compatible placement of required elements into eXpress, to support reliability analysis, testing, diagnostics, health management, maintainability management, verification and validation.

Key benefits and savings (over manual input) achieved by this process are provided in terms of time saving, reliability and repeatability.

Features included in the latest release of eDi:

  • Automatic replication of the original schematic topology:

    • Components and objects placed in same relative layout in the eXpress model as for the imported schematics.

    • Ports for the eXpress model match the imported object port layout with port naming to match the originals.

    • Determination of the correct port types (eg, input, output, bi-directional or control) for imported objects, as determined by connection data within the imported design.

    • Net connections between ports with naming of the nets in accordance with net names in the imported schematics.

    • Allocation of a unique name to the sub parts of same device when imported into eXpress, eg, a quad NAND gate will have unique name for each gate, such as 1C10a, IC10b etc.

  • Object Manipulation:

    • Connector blocks created as rectangular objects with ports connected to named I/O flags.

    • Multiple objects imported with same name have the object name added to the object reference field so that eXpress diagnostics knows they are to be treated as one item.

    • Multiple nets may be combined into one net; eg, data bus lines DBUS(0), DBUS(1) etc, can be combined into one net called DBUS(0-N). Item ports connected to the new combined net are also combinable into one port per object; hence instead of DBUS(0), DBUS(1), etc, the combined port could be DBUS(0-N).

  • User selectable options:

    • To create either a hierarchical or flat model from a hierarchical schematic.

    • Custom origin for each imported schematic sheet when the option to create a flat eXpress model is invoked.

    • Behaviour customisable by the use of configuration files.

    • For multiple original objects with same name to either maintain separate eXpress objects or combine into single object during import, eg, multiple FPGA blocks to one eXpress object.

    • Intelligent support of User Selected Options:

      • The placement and naming of I/O flags for an overall flat system model or for separate imported schematic sheets as applicable.

      • Automatic determination of the I/O flag direction in the imported model to represent signal flow direction; eg, input, output or bi-directional.

  • Intelligent support for updates to existing imported designs:

    • eXpress object dependency data retained for unchanged objects.

    • eXpress object function input filtering retained for unchanged objects.

    • Identification of any new or changed object names.

  • User documentation is provided in the form of Help.

  • Maintenance support

    • Maintenance support to cover eventualities such as changes in your source design tool’s file format or capabilities.
